From April 11 to April 19, 2019, the XXVI International Glinka Vocalists Competition will be held in Kazan.
The founders of the competition are the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan with the support of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan R.N.Minnikhanov.
The Glinka vocal competition is one of the oldest, most representative and prestigious music competitions held in Russia (the first competition was held in Moscow in 1960).
For more than half a century of history until 2014, the competition was held strictly once every 2 years. But later, for various reasons, this tradition was broken. This year, the capital of Tatarstan opens a new page in the history of authoritative creative competition.
The most important task of the competition, which bears the name of the great Russian composer Mikhail Ivanovich Glinka, is not only the discovery of talent, but also the popularization of Russia's classical vocal heritage. All the operatic troupes of theaters in Russia and the near abroad for more than half a century were formed from laureates and participants of the competition. The stars of the world opera, Elena Obraztsova, Vladimir Atlantov, Olga Borodina, Dmitry Khvorostovsky, Maria Guleghina, Anna Netrebko, Ildar Abdrazakov, Albina Shagimuratova and several hundred other opera singers, laureates and winners 25 contests.
For many years the permanent singer of the jury was the great singer and teacher, People's Artist of the USSR, Hero of Socialist Labor, laureate of the Lenin Prize and State Prizes of Russia, academician, professor Irina Konstantinovna Arkhipova.
