Klezmer in army mode

27 March 2017, Monday

March 29, at 18.30, at  the State Grand Concert Hall of RT named after S. Saydashev will be a concert of the Kazan klezmer ensemble "Simkha". For the first time in its 28-year history, the ensemble will perform accompanied by the orchestra of the Kazan Higher Military Command School (KVVKU, conductor - lieutenant colonel Jan Orekhov). Specially for the project, unique arrangements of the traditional repertoire were made, and a number of premieres were prepared, for example, the march "Farewell of the Slav", which will be performed in Hebrew.

"The idea of the project  has been born for several years," said the artistic director of the ensemble "Simkha" Eduard Tumansky, - the KVVKU orchestra has repeatedly participated in the annual Festival of Jewish Music in Kazan. We have long discussed with the conductor Jan Orekhov the possibility of holding a joint project - this idea appeared many years ago, even with the founder of our ensemble Leonid Sontse. Historically, klezmers have played on the streets, accompanied weddings, celebrations, and there are points of intersection with a military band that often plays on  open air. It was interesting for us to combine the clarity and discipline of the modern military brass band and the improvisation of the klezmer style. "

The concert program will consist of vocal and instrumental compositions, songs in Yiddish and Hebrew. The soloists are Eduard Tumansky and Jan Flaksman.
