At the department of exhibitions and cultural programs of the National Library of the Republic of Tatarstan, an exhibition "Tolerance - the road to peace", timed to the International Day of Tolerance, which is celebrated annually on 16 November has opened.
The exhibition is designed for a wide range of readers and will last until the end of the month. It presents books about Russia as a multinational state where peacefully live more than 190 nations. They disclose the concept of tolerance in the light of the dialogue of cultures, ethno-religious and inter-ethnic relations, freedom of religion and belief. The exhibition includes monographs and manuals on multicultural education, education of tolerance at pupils and students tolerance educational curriculums. Of particular interest is the section on the development of tolerance in the Republic of Tatarstan, which is home to over 170 nationalities. The experience of the Republic on the interaction of ethnic cultures is represented in books and periodicals.
International Day for Tolerance was established November 16, 1995, when the countries of the UNESCO, signed a "Declaration of Principles on Tolerance." It singles out points actions of states of the world: to improve the living conditions of the people, respect the freedom of the individual, to promote respect, tolerance and dialogue among peoples.
