"Images of unfading pages. Book printmaking on the works by M.A. Sholokhov "at the National Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan

The Culture  of   the Don Cossacks will be presented from July 15, 2016,  within the project "National Culture in the National Museum" when an exhibition "Images of unfading pages is due to open. Book graphic   arts   on the works by  M.A. Sholokhov "  from the collection of the State Museum-Reserve of M.A. Sholokhov in the Rostov region. The exhibition is a continuation of the cooperation, the answer to the exhibition of the   RT National Museum "Decorative and Applied Arts of the Kazan Tatars: history and modernity", which was exhibited at the Museum-Reserve of M.A. Sholokhov in spring  this year.

The display of  the new film version of "Quiet Flows the Don" has raised interest in the work of the great Russian writer, Nobel Prize laureate  for Literature (1965)  Mikhail Sholokhov.

His work has always attracted illustrators, since his prose style is original, colorful, and a description of nature, people's characters are precise and perfect.    The works  by  M.A.  Sholokhov    have been illustrated by such famous artists as G. Vereysky, Y. Rebrov,  Kukryniksy, Petrovs, V. Galdyaev, Baklanov et al.

Materials  of the exhibition have been  organized   by taking into account the  thematic  principle  and divided into several complexes:

- Works by artists  V. Galdyaev. and V. Baklanov, illustrating the cycle of the early works by  the writer. The artists chose the most tense moments of stories and created vivid images of the heroes,  who have fallen into the whirlpool of the events of the Civil War;

- Illustrations  for the novel "Quiet Flows the Don" and "Virgin Soil Upturned"   by well- known  printmakers  O. Vereysky  and Yu.  Rebrov. In his book "Meetings on the way"   O.Vereysky  shared his impressions: "Mikhail Sholokhov so vividly described his characters that, knowing them as close friends,   you  do not know,  whether  it is  difficult  to portray on paper?  Landscapes and scenes of everyday life - they are not just described, they  have  been  drawn already . " Yu. Rebrov for his illustrations  to the novel "And Quiet Flows the Don" was awarded a silver medal of the Academy of Arts of the USSR;

- A series of illustrations to the works of   M.A. Sholokhov about  WWII   by  artists Kukryniksy and Petrovs in which bright, vividly   the life of a Russian soldier reflected. Artists Petrovs on book  printmaking  exhibition in Berlin for a series of prints   received a large silver medal.

The exhibition also presents a portrait of M.A. Sholokhov, created by the artist V.F. Dorozhinskiy. The portrait and background   were made   by  handwritten letters and include more than eight chapters of the novel "Virgin Soil Upturned".

Exhibition is supplemented by photographs and works of M.A. Sholokhov, to help better  understanding  the work  by  the famous writer, the world of Sholokhov’s heroes and the beauty of the Don land.

The exhibition will run from July 15 to September 17, 2016 at the National Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan at the address:  Kremlin  str, 2.
