April 21-23, 2016, Almaty city (Kazakhstan) hosted the V Symposium of the research group "Music of the Turkic-speaking peoples" of the International Council for Traditional Music (International Council for Traditional Music).
ICTM - a non-governmental organization based in consultative relations with UNESCO. It was established in 1947 and brings together experts from around the world. In 2016, Elmira Kayumova - researcher and popularizer of the Tatar folk music, leading researcher of the National Center of Traditional Music has become part of the ICTM.
The grand opening event was held at the Foundation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Leader of the Nation. Breakout sessions were held at the Kazakh National Conservatory after Kurmangazy. A major scientific forum was attended by experts from Germany, Italy, UK, Netherlands, Canada, Azerbaijan, different parts of Russia, etc. The delegation from Tatarstan also included lecturers from Kazan(Volga)Federal Univecity - Reseda Khurmatullina and Dilara Muftakhutdinova.
Along with the presentations, the symposium program included a workshop of Tuvan folk ensemble "Dyngylday", a video presentation of the Museum of Music and Folklore of peoples of Yakutia, an exhibition of new books, concerts of traditional and modern music, museums and others.
The program of stay E.R. Kayumova in Almaty has been extremely busy. In addition to the report on gusli- tradition of the Kryashens, Elmira Kayumova presented books and CDs, spoke at the round table on the results of the symposium, gave an interview to "Radio Classics". On April 25, the Institute of Literature and Art after M.O. Auezov she held a master class on two topics: "Musicology of Tatarstan on the modern stage: Problems and Prospects" and "Direction and results of activity of the National Centre for Development of traditional culture."
