Moscow, July 29, at the headquarters of the Russian Geographical Society a meeting of Media Club of the Russian Geographical Society took place. In anticipation of the 170th anniversary of the Russian Geographical Society Sergei Shoigu its President and Chairman of the Media Council, Dmitry Peskov, told representatives of leading Russian mass media about the most interesting events and projects that are being implemented by the society in the year of jubilee.
"Total RGS oversees more than 600 projects. This year alone, the Society issued 112 grants to various initiatives, among which projects to protect rare animals, school expeditions, and support for people with disabilities. To talk about all of our projects even the whole day will not be enough, "- Sergey Shoigu said, opening the meeting.
Such bright International Projects have been marked like Geography Olympiad (iGEO), the Conference of the International Geographical Union, the expedition by the Society to the North Kuril island Shumshu, RGS Russian photo contest "The most beautiful country", II Festival of RGS, which will take place in autumn, etc.
Among the projects were projects by Tatarstan. It is a large-scale research project in Tatarstan branch of the Russian Geographical Society "13 Seas" under Dmitry Schiller, and the project of the Republican Special Library for the Blind and Visually Impaired "Tatarstan on fingertips", implemented by the library in conjunction with the Tatarstan branch of the Russian Geographical Society.
Separately, the chairman of the Media Council, Dmitry Peskov, focused on projects that help people with disabilities to make the world more convenient, especially for the project "Tatarstan on fingertips."
"Tatarstan Library for the Blind and Visually Impaired with the support of the Russian Geographical Society publishes the books that can be" read "by hands. They contain information about geographic features, reserves, parks Tatarstan. We will definitely continue and expand it," - D. Peskov said.
At the meeting of Media Club was attended by leaders of several projects of the Russian Geographical Society, after the event, journalists were able to ask them questions. The project "Tatarstan at their fingertips," the author of the project presented to journalists Gelyusya Zakirov.
Also, Gelyusya Zakirova handed Russian Geographical Society a picture of a Kul Sharif mosque passed Laishevskij boarding school for the blind and visually impaired children.
"Like today, it was noted by Dmitry Sergeyevich, to instill liking of geography one should do from childhood, so implementing our project, we pay special attention to blind children. The project has published textbooks of Geography of the Republic of Tatarstan, gazetteers and publications about natural architectural and cultural monuments of the country. These books were transferred to the school for the blind and visually impaired children. The children, in turn, reflect their geographical knowledge here in such creative works. This work is done by hands of blind and visually impaired children of the Laishevskij boarding school, it has retained the warmth of the hearts and hands of these children, and also thanks to the Russian Geographical Society and our library, for the opportunity to read books on geography in accessible formats for them, "- Gelyusya Zakirov said.
