Selection Panel of the XI Kazan Film Festival is to be headed by Sergey Lavrentiev

Selection Commission of the  XI  Kazan International Muslim Film Festival  sis to be  headed by renowned film critic Sergey Lavrentiev. Academician of the Russian Academy of Motion Picture Arts "Nika", member of the Russia Oscar committee,  pedagogue  of the Moscow Institute of Television and Radio Broadcasting, Sergey Lavrentiev in different years was the program director of the International Film Festival "Kinotavr", "Zerkalo (Mirror)" (named after Andrei Tarkovsky), "The East and the West. Classic and avant-garde, "" Faces of Love " and others. Sergey is also familiar with the Kazan festival - he is the chairman of the selection committee of Tatarstan Film Forum for several years.

Besides  S. Lavrentev,   the selection committee  consists of : director, screenwriter and producer Alex Barykin (consultant on Tatarstan cinema), the first deputy chairman of the Spiritual Board of Muslims of Tatarstan Rustam Batra (consultant on Muslim culture), as well as film critics and filmmakers from other countries - Gulbara Tolomusheva ( curator of the East-Asia), Vera Langerova (direction - Western Europe), Ivan Forgách (Eastern Europe).

"Qualifying campaign   is  carried out in the following way - says art director of  XI KIFMC Albina Nafigova. - During the year, we receive and register the applications for participation in the festival. Some applications come in the period from October to July, along with that for the year,  the movies appears appropriate to the  concept and theme of the festival – they are  found  and recommended for  participation  by  our consultants – Vera  Langerova, Gulbara Tolomusheva,  Ivan Forgách. All of them are  working  not for the first time at the Kazan Film Festival, are aware of our specifics,   have a lot of practice - go to the world shows, helping to select suitable for competitive and non-competitive film program. After that movies are recorded through  entry service and get to  qualifying campaign.

Commission Chairman Sergey Lavrentiev watches  all the films and completely determines  the results of the selection. Alex Barykin responsible for the level of pictures  presented  by Tatarstan.  Then Rustam Batrov advices on the subject of conflicting and incorrect facts presented. In parallel, the art director defines trends of off-contest: how it is done as in advance so   during the "drop-out"  of applications - non-competitive   positions  are made up  according  interesting films to viewers  that are relevant  by   topic or geography. As a result of this long and painstaking work  a competitive short-list of 50 films is formed, as well as the grid of  parallel (non-competitive) programs. "

The selection committee is due to finish its work by 20 July 2015. In early August, the competition program will be unveiled. We remind the  XI Kazan International Muslim Film Festival will be held from  September 5 to 11,  2015. July 1,   accepting applications for the festival is over: the organizing committee  has registered   more than 700 films from 52 countries.
