Sabantui comes to Bulgaria
In 2014, Russia compatriots in Bulgaria, having united in community called "The Volga Bulgars", first time in Bulgaria, organized on 13 June, 2015, a Tatar national holiday "Sabantui" at the South Park in Sofia city.
Residents of Sofia had the opportunity to see in all its beauty and diversity the identity of the multinational people of the Russian Federation. Before festively decorated entrance, guests were welcomed in traditional costumes with chak-chak. The Russia Ambassador to Bulgaria Yu. N.Isakov tied to a pole the first Sabantui towel.
Sabantui has been opened by a famous national folk ensemble "Bulgary", having delighted the audience with its excellent performance. The artists from Tatarstan amazed the audience with their virtuoso performance, immediately won love and recognition of the public. In tents folk craftsmen deployed in a park, the Bulgarian friends were shown samples of folk crafts told about the history and present of the Russian republics, treated by national Tatar, Bashkir, Russian and other goodies.
On the main stage the guests have been welcomed the by chief organizer of the celebration, head of the community "The Volga Bulgars" Alfiya Dimitrova, Russia Ambassador to Bulgaria Yuri Isakov, official representative of Tatarstan Raisa Sakheeva, vice-premiere Ivaylo Kalfin, who tied the seventh and final towel of Sabantui, symbolizing the opening of the festival. Official guests of the holiday turned to sources of national culture, and having fitted traditional costumes of the Volga Bulgars, became as if a part of it, joined the festivities.
The Volga Bulgars not only have shown, but also attracted the resting at a park to a traditional folk entertainments. The children as adults competed in race in sacks with a spoon in mouth, with egg, were fighting with sacks of straw, sitting on a log, cut with scissors blindfolded suspended gifts; strong guys mastered the techniques of popular struggle on belts "koryash"; girls balanced on a log, the most desperate Sofiyaners ran with buckets filled with water on yokes, athletes lifted weights, the Cossacks showed their prowess. And the main Sabantui Batyr has won a prize - a live ram.
In a center of glade, a cooking show was presented: in a pan with a diameter of 2.5 m. Bulgarian dish "yunashki kebab" was prepared, according to old recipes and nearby a huge cauldron-kazan - a real plov, which "broke" the Balkan record - 200 kg of rice and 200 kg of mutton!
Sabantui ended by a performance of youth famous Bulgarian rock band Rock Uncknown Persons, who have gathered in front of the stage for about one and a half thousand people, treating pilaf.
