Mintimer Shaimiev opens Russia Archaeological Congress
October 20 – 25, 2014, the IV (XX) Russia Archaeological Congress starts working in Kazan. The event organizers: Institute of Archaeology, Russia Academy of Sciences, Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan, Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University, Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the Russia Academy of Sciences, Institute of History of Material Culture.
The plenary session of the Congress, which begins on October 20, at 14.00, at the CSC "UNIKS" attends RT State Councilor, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Fund for revival of RT monuments of history and culture M.Sh.Shaimiev.
The decision to hold IV (XX) Russia Archaeological Congress in Kazan was due to the high achievements of archeology of Tatarstan for last period, to mark the IV All-Russia Archaeological Congress held in Kazan in 1877
Relevance and importance of the event, through which Russia scientists will be able to see the results of research projects and to discuss topical issues of archaeological and historical science, reflects the rapidly growing number of its members. In II (XVIII) All-Russia Archaeological Congress in Suzdal in 2008 was attended by more than 400 scientists from 190 institutions from 53 subjects of the Russian Federation, III (XIX) All-Russia Archaeological Congress in Staraya Russa and Novgorod in 2011, was attended by more than 600 scientists from research organizations of sciences, universities, museums, conservation bodies for monuments of history and culture, and others, organizations from more than 60 regions from the Russian Federation. These conventions were significant for developments in the academic and social life of modern Russia. Resuming the tradition of Congresses gave a significant impetus to the consolidation of archaeological and historical scholarship and overcome regional fragmentation, protection of ancient monuments and culture, provided an opportunity for a wider audience to get acquainted with the most important results of research projects carried out by individual institutions, in various regions of the Russian Federation - that is, given a new momentum for association of archaeological community. Thus, the ever-increasing interest in the archaeological community to this event is evidence of its necessity and relevance.
At the next IV (XX) Congress discussion topical issues of archaeological and historical science, problem of preservation of the archaeological heritage as part of the cultural heritage of the peoples of Russia, role of archeology in education, museum construction, restoration of ancient archaeological sites and other problems are planned. These issues are fundamental to modern archeology.
During the preparation of the IV (XX) All-Russia Archaeological Congress in Kazan, the Organizing Committee received applications from 950 scientists from 72 regions of Russia and 22 countries of the near and far abroad. They represent more than 260 scientific organizations, universities, museums, and government agencies for protection of monuments of history and culture, and others. Around 700 participants have submitted their reports, which to be included in a 4-volume edition of the Proceedings of the Congress. In the course of the congress it is planned to organize a 3-round tables on the most important problems of archeology.
