From September 18 to 21, with support of Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tatartsan and the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY) the II International Festival "Leatherworking in the Turkic world" took place at the National Museum of Tatarstan
Halls of the museum became a platform for creative exchange of ideas on development of one of the oldest forms of art. Here a scientific symposium "Art leather treatment among the Turkic peoples,"opening of the exhibition "Turkic leather: art and tradition", workshops on artistic treatment of leather took place.
Ethnographers, historians, art historians, museum professionals artists and craftsmen from the regions of Russia and abroad - Khakassia, Bashkortostan, Astrakhan region, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey took part in the festival. Sessions have been conducted by well-known art critics of Russia - leading research fellow of Institute of the Russian Academy of Arts T.L.Astrahantseva (Moscow), a leading researcher at the Institute of History n.a. Sh.Mardjani G.F.Suleymanova-Valeyeva. Presentations were made by researchers from Ankara and Bishkek, Abakan and Astrakhan, Ufa, who unanimously stressed the need to further study and promotion of handicrafts typical for all Turkic peoples.
On September 19, opening of the exhibition, the basis of which made the collection of the National Museum of the Republic of Tatartsan, as well as a number of exhibits of the State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve "Kazan Kremlin." The exhibition, which runs until October 19, presents art works made by students and faculty of Kazan University of Culture and Arts, the Kazan Art School named after N.I. Feshin, Kazan college of folk arts and crafts; modern masters and designers. A special place is occupied by the talented master, People's Artist of Kyrgyzstan Ishenbek Chalanov in the technique of embossing and works by members of the Chamber of crafts of Bashkortostan Sergey Ryabukha, who presented excellent facilities of archer.
On September 20, a presentation of the book by L.I.Sattarova "Sekhtiyan chitek, Saura ukche." Master classes by famous artists on leather caused great interest among students of departments of applied art, art schools and universities of Kazan, as well as the general public.
