6 August 2014, Wednesday

A freestanding contest of the X Kazan International Muslim Film Festival program will present the cinema of East and South Asia. A jubilee Festival has received more than 500 applications from 56 countries (of which more than 50 films from the Asian countries) that enabled to expand the geography of the festival and create a non-competitive programs dedicated to specific geographic regions. One of them is the "Asian kinofokus", which includes movies from India, Japan and South Korea.

For Kazan Film Festival the films from "Asian" region are not a novelty – movies s from China and India are not only included in the competition program, but also had become the winners at the festivals of previous years, and formed a separate program for the first time. "Dialogue of Cultures at our festival is not limited to showing films on the theme of interaction between peoples of different backgrounds and beliefs. Understanding the life and culture of other countries through movies – is also a dialogue understandable without translation - says art director of KIMFF Albina Nafigova. – Cinema of Asia is original and very unusual for us. The program will be of interest to a wide audience".

The contest program "Asian kinofokus" includes a full-length movies «Fandry» (India), "Homeland" (Japan), as well as the tape from South Korea - feature film "Echo of the Dragon" and several short stories.

The drama «Fandry» tells about a love affair between a young man and a woman in a conflict of caste discrimination: the protagonist of the untouchables, and his beloved - from families of higher caste. A debut of  director Nagraj Manjule   has  won the main prize in nomination   "Best Film" at the International Film Festival in Mumbai in 2014, as well as awards at the European and American festivals. Premiere was held February 14, 2014, on Valentine's Day. In addition to good comments from critics   in India and abroad,  the  «Fandry» received a  commercial success  among  distributors.

Japanese film  «Homeland»   tells of a place near Fukushima, the locals were forced to leave after a sad   famous accident at a nuclear reactor  due to the earthquake and subsequent tsunami in the spring of 2011. The   film tells about how obeying "feeling of  homeland," people try to live in the given circumstances.

The  film "Echo of the Dragon" consists of  few subplots,  wildly  twisted around the main character of the ancient Korean mythology - a mighty Dragon. The film by young director Hyun-Jung Lee  entered the contest program of  Jeonju International Film Festival in 2013.

The "Asian kinofokus" will be held at  the    Mir cinema.

We remind  that  the  X International Festival of Muslim Cinema in Kazan is  held from    September 5 to 11,  2014.

Kazan International Muslim Film Festival (KIFF) - one of the largest domestic film festivals, takes place in the capital of Tatarstan annually since 2005. The concept of the festival is reflected in its motto: "Through  dialogue of cultures to culture of dialogue." The program of the forum   has  selected films bearing   the idea of peacemaking, tolerance, telling about the ways of building inter-ethnic dialogue, - regardless of the religion of the author. It is no coincidence  that among  the  professionals  the Kazan film festival is called  "humane movie festival."
