Kazan cinema festival opens «Window to Europe»

Over  300 films from  30 countries of the world have been registered at the moment by organizing committee of IX Kazan international festival of Muslim cinema as potential participants for contest program. Acceptance of applications  is to last until July 1, and a month later, the  festival selection commission will name 50 films, having entered the basic competition. By the rules, these are 20 fiction films  (10 full-length and  10 short-length), 20 documentaries and  10 animation ones.

Among the delivered works  – a big number of films created by cinema makers from Europe and the CIS. «If previous years prevailing of Asia and Oriental  countries was clear, present year we see unbelievable activity from Europe – marks  PR-manager of  IX KMFMC Albina Nafigova».

«Off contest of  IX KМFМC  will b very saturate and diverse. It is planned  holding a big program «Window to Europe», consisting of sections «Vintage  French cinema», «Hungary. New cinema focus» and  «TreeFilms. Festival mix». The results of progressing cinema industry of the countries once composing the USSR, a parallel program «After USSR» will present. Premiere films from Belorussia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Baltic countries will enter it.

First time, in Kazan, a  collection of short-length films  of Geneva cinema festival «FIFOG»  will be presented in Kazan. International forum of Oriental  cinema  (The International Oriental Film Festival in Geneva) has been  held  in since 2006 in Switzerland capital. It is worthy noting that though Switzerland  colleagues do not name their festival a Muslim one, by concept, Kazan and Geneva festivals  are very similar:: their main purpose  - to show the East to the West and the West to the East  –to implement dialogue of cultures.

We remind that IX International festival of Muslim cinema will take place from September  5 to 11, 2013.
