Today, 15 February 2021, marks 115 years since the birthday of Musa Jalil. The hero poet, whose feat became an example of unbending courage and devotion to the Motherland, is known and revered not only in Tatarstan and Russia, but all over the world. His Moabit Notebooks, a cycle of poems written by him in Berlin's Moabit prison between 1942 and 1944, have been translated into more than 60 languages.
Since the 80s of the twentieth century, every year on February 15, on Jalil's birthday, the National Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan has held the Day of Moabit Notebooks. On this day, genuine notebooks are solemnly taken out from the museum's funds: residents and guests of Kazan have a unique opportunity to see this historical monument. On two palm-sized notebooks, 93 poems have been preserved, written in pencil in Arabic (first notebook) and Latin (second notebook) letters.
Today, at the jubilee celebration, the right to take out the "Moabit notebooks" was given to the poet's daughter, Chulpan Museevna.
“These days are memorable, we need them to touch with our soul and heart those distant, terrible, tragic times, in order to touch the memory of our departed heroes,” said Chulpan Museevna.
The event was also attended by: Chairman of the Committee of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan on education, culture and national issues Airat Zaripov; Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan Lenar Khakimzyanov; First Deputy Minister for Youth Affairs of the Republic of Tatarstan Timur Suleimanov; Deputy General Director for Accounting and Storage of Museum Items, Chief Curator of the National Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan Lilia Sattarova; Danil Salikhov, chairman of the Writers' Union of the Republic of Tatarstan, Ilgiz Khalikov, deputy head of the Executive Committee of the World Congress of Tatars.
Dmitry Gubin, director of the St. Petersburg branch of the State Company Russian Highways, was the guest of honor. He read out a solemn message from the chairman of the board: “The state company in its activities pays great attention to the issue of preserving the historical memory of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. In the year of the 75th anniversary of Victory, on the recreation area on the 561st kilometer of the Moscow-St. Petersburg highway in the Myasnoy Bor area of the Novgorod region, the State Company erected a monument to those who died in defending the Fatherland, which immortalized the feat of the soldiers and commanders of the Second Shock Army of the Volkhov Front, the ranks of which Musa Jalil fought. Today, on the 115th anniversary of Musa Jalil's birthday, we recall with gratitude and admiration his great feat, reread his unique works filled with unshakable fortitude, an all-encompassing desire to live and create, an unshakable faith in victory. Our sacred duty is to remember ourselves and pass on to future generations the whole truth about those heroic events, tell about the feat of Musa Jalil, make sure that his literary heritage serves the patriotic education of young people and henceforth remains evidence of love for the Motherland, courage and heroism. "
In the final of the celebration, Musa Jalil's granddaughter, Elizaveta Malysheva, sang Rustem Yakhin's Song without Words on the violin, accompanied by the poet's granddaughter, Tatyana Malysheva.
