Fairy tale "Mio, my Mio!" Astrid Lindgren was awarded a prestigious award - the German Prize for Children and Youth Literature, and its first film adaptation took place in 1987.

The plot is based on the story of a boy named Busse, adopted by an elderly couple. The foster family does not like the child, which makes the boy feel lonely. But one day everything changes for Busse, and an orphan living in a poor family becomes the heir to the throne. This is how Busse's new life begins ...

Ekaterina Gorokhovskaya:

“Mio, my Mio!” Is one of my favorite books. And I have long wanted to stage an unusual figurative fairy tale. In this my desire and the desire of the theater troupe coincided.

I first read Lindgren's book when I was 12, and it made a tremendous impression on me then with its inescapable sadness and enchanting light. Later I watched the famous film by Vladimir Grammatikov based on the fairy tale of the same name with  participation of Soviet, British and Scandinavian actors, which was filmed in  80s. It seemed to me that the film did not express all the wonder of Astrid Lindgren's book. It seems to me that the fate of the hero is a little similar to the story of Harry Potter. He is also the chosen boy, a special child, although, unlike Harry, Boss turned out to be a prince.

Bosse goes a long spiritual path, realizing that being a prince is not just life in a palace and possession of the crown, but above all life for the good of people, sacrifice and the ability to give up one's own desires.

I would define the genre of the play as a chronicle of the maturation of the soul. This is a fairy tale for family viewing. And the quote from the text of the book “You can handle it, because your heart is courageous and your thoughts are noble” conveys the whole essence of the story in the best possible way. It is very important for me that this story is about endless childhood loneliness, and that the world will be in harmony only when all children are at home, surrounded by loving parents. "

For reference: production director Ekaterina Gorokhovskaya is a laureate of the I. V. Strzhelchik in the nomination "Best Debut" for the role of Thomasina (ABDT play "Arcadia" staged by E. Nyuganen). She was awarded a diploma of the Theater Critics Association for  creation of the play "The Prince from the Castle of Depot" in collaboration with the artists of the Yekaterinburg Theater of Young Spectators. Performances by Ekaterina Gorokhovskaya are staged at theaters in St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Rostov-on-Don and other Russian cities.
