24 August 2020, Monday

The THEATRUM 2020 laboratory is part of a joint project of the Theater Institute (educational project of the Golden Mask Festival) and the Vladimir Potanin Charitable Foundation.

THEATRUM  has been  launched in 2019. The project is intended to update and draw the attention of the professional community, cultural managers and the general public to stage and performative practices in museums, galleries, reserves, as well as to installation and exhibition forms of the theater.

THEATRUM consists of three parts: a laboratory for researching ways to create museum and theater projects; a festival of regional and metropolitan projects already created at the intersection of museum and theater formats; business program.

The main goal of the laboratory is to contribute to the expansion of opportunities for both theatrical and museum affairs, and to create conditions for new expression in the framework of traditional activities. THEATRUM 2020 will provide participants with a unique opportunity to conceive and create their own projects based on the city's museums.

The laboratory is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan.

The curators of the laboratory are artists Alexander Barmenkov and Vanya Bowden.

The laboratory participants were selected by the curators following an open call from more than 90 applications. Practitioners from Rostov-on-Don, Voronezh, Kirov, Perm, Kemerovo, Chelyabinsk, St. Petersburg and Moscow will come to Kazan, representing different areas of artistic activity and profession.

The laboratory program is divided into two parts - theoretical and practical. Throughout the course, the participants are consulted by a group of tutors, theater and contemporary art professionals with various specializations - director and playwright Andrei Stadnikov, artists Valentina Ostankovich and Shifra Kazhdan, researcher Daria Deryugina, producer Daria Verner.
