24 April 2020, Friday

From September 4 to September 9, 2020, Kazan will host the 16th International Muslim Film Festival. The main theme of the festival will be the 100th anniversary of the Tatar Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. A number of programs will be dedicated to this event.

In one of the programs  the  archival films about significant events, famous artists of the Soviet Tatarstan will be presented. Another selection will be devoted to films that were shot in Kazan and contain scenes with recognizable city sights - from the “Real Tale” by A. Marmontov with Sergey Bezrukov in the title role to the adventure comedy “Treasures of Lake Kaban” by D. Korobkin with Alexei Vorobyov as a adventurous treasure hunter.

Traditionally, the program will include the special project “Kazan Premieres”, where Tatarstan filmmakers present the paintings they are working on, or the films they just  have been  created. It is expected that the premiere of the full-length film «Sumbul» based on the novel of the same name by Zifa Kadyrova, filmed at the end of 2019 by filmmakers of Tatarstan and Uzbekistan (in co-production) is expected to take place.

It is worth noting that under the auspices of the 100th anniversary of the TASSR, the "Weeks of Contemporary Tatarstan Cinema" are already taking place in different cities of Russia. So, from the beginning of this year, the films “Baigal” by I. Yagafarov, “Mulla” by A. Galiaskarov, “Apipa” I. Rakhimbay and others have already been shown in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Astrakhan, Krasnodar, Irkutsk, Yekaterinburg, Orenburg and others cities.
