XXXVIII International Opera Festival named after F.I. Shaliapin starts today in Kazan January 31, 2020, Friday

On January 31, the XXXVIII International Opera Festival named after F.I. Shaliapin will open at  the Tatar Academic State Opera and Ballet Theater named after M. Jalil with the performance “The Tsar’s Bride” by N. Rimsky-Korsakov.

The opening of the festival will be attended by Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan Farid Mukhametshin, as well as  General Director of the Bolshoi Theater of Russia Vladimir Urin.

The program will open  the opera “The Tsar’s Bride” by N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov (production of 2019). The main parts in the performance will be performed by Mikhail Kazakov (Sobakin), soloist of the TASTOiB named after M. Dzhalil and the Bolshoi Theater of Russia, Gulnor Gatina (Marfa), the TASTOiB soloist, Yekaterina Sergeeva (Lyubasha) and Sergey Semishkur (Lykov), Mariinsky Theater soloists , soloist of the National Bolshoi Theater of Belarus Stanislav Trifonov (Gryaznoy) and others. Conductor - People's Artist of Tatarstan, Honored Artist of Russia Renat Salavatov.

The performance “The Tsar’s Bride” will be repeated twice - on January 31 and February 1 (with a different cast). In addition, the festival program included 9 more performances representing masterpieces of the foreign (Aida, Troubadour, Nabucco, Rigoletto by J. Verdi, The Barber of Seville by J. Rossini, Bohemia by J. Puccini), Russian (“Queen of Spades” by P. Tchaikovsky, “Boris Godunov” by M. Mussorgsky) and national (“Syuyumbike” by R. Akhiyarova) opera art.

38 invited singers and conductors from 8 countries of the world - Russia, Italy, Germany, USA, Egypt, Belarus, Ukraine and Kazakhstan will take part in the creative marathon. The full poster is available on the official website of the theater kazan-opera.ru. All the performances are attended by leading soloists of the opera company TASTOiB named after M. Jalil, as well as artists of the choir, orchestra, ballet, and mimic ensemble of the theater.

The festival will last over three weeks and will end on February 23 with a show of the performance “Syuyumbike” by R. Akhiyarova.
