Dolls are known to mankind since ancient times, when they were made by hand. After the chemical and polymer industries developed, the assortment of toys increased dramatically, their production was put on stream. In ancient times, figurines made of clay, stone, wood or fabric were given magical significance, but over time these idols lost their mysterious meaning, as a result they gradually turned into a category of toys, and talismans became decorations. Nowadays, products that have preserved local artistic traditions also serve as souvenirs. The word "souvenir" came from French in the distant times of Peter the Great and means "a gift to remember."
Having provided his collection of souvenir toys for display in Elabuga, Alexander Grekov is a collector, a candidate of art history, an honored art worker of Russia, a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Arts, the organ secretary of the Union of Artists of Russia. He acquired unusual exhibits from porcelain, wood, plastic, clay, papier-mâché, cloth in different countries of the world.
Natalia Sergeevna is an artist known in Moscow and the Moscow Region, whose entire creative life is connected with the hometown of Zagorsk (now Sergiev Posad), a member of the Union of Artists of Russia. Her personal exhibitions were presented at the State Duma of the Russian Federation, the Federation Council, the Supreme Arbitration Court, the Central House of Artists (Moscow), museums, and Russian and foreign galleries. In 2014, at the opening of the personal exhibition by Natalia Korneva at the Sergiev-Posad State Historical and Art Museum-Reserve “Bylo(It was) ”, Alexander Grekov, Secretary of the Union of Artists of Russia, presented her with a gold medal for “spirituality, tradition, craftsmanship”.
