Since the first traveling exhibition, held in 1871, the artists not only have won recognition from the public, but also determined the ways of the national self-affirmation of the Russian art for several decades. The demands put forward by art in the 1870s and 80s are the image of the authenticity of being, the most acute moments of the surrounding life.
Since 1871, the Association has held 48 exhibitions in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Petersburg, which was later shown in other cities of Russia, including several exhibitions in Kazan (1874, 1886).
Especially for the exhibition in the Kazan Kremlin, the Tretyakov Gallery has published 27 works from its permanent exhibition. One of her recognized masterpieces is a portrait of an outstanding historian of the world art, a bright art critic of the A.Prakhov era, was created by I.Kramskiy in 1879.
Recently, the Tretyakov Gallery has been making a lot of efforts to return paintings to its "native" frames, which artists had ordered to professional frameworks of their time. Such frames are of unique value. Thus, for the first time the work by V.D. Polenov "Portrait of the artist Ilya Repin" will be shown in a frame selected by the author himself.
The works presented at the exhibition are the pearls of the Moscow meeting and reveal the evolution of the art of the 19th century, to demonstrate its movement from realism to impressionism and modernity.
