The formation of the Kazan Ballet School is inextricably linked with the Opera and Ballet Theater, whose needs in the inflow of young cadres led to the opening in 1972 of the choreographic department at the Musical College named after. I.V. Aukhadeev. However, the enrolling for the course were irregular, were held every few years, and by the early 1990s, a long-felt need appeared to create a special educational institution that prepares professional dancers.
On March 1, 1993, the choreographic department was transformed into a separate educational institution specializing in the preparation of ballet dancers, the Kazan Choreography School. The initiators of the reforms were the director of the TASTOiB named after M.Jalil Raufal Mukhametzyanov and the artistic director of the ballet company Vladimir Yakovlev. For many years, the artistic director of the educational institution was People's Artist of Russia, Tatarstan and Bashkortostan Ninel Yultieva (1926-2014). Since 2003, the school is headed by Tatyana Shahnina, Honored Worker of Culture of Russia and Tatarstan.

Graduates of the school dance on the stages of the theaters of Russia and the world, they work in well-known dance groups.
Particular attention in the educational process is paid to the continuity of the traditions that develop between the school and the Opera and Ballet Theater after M. Jalil. Many pedagogues of the school - in the past, the leading soloists of the theater. Annually during the winter holidays on the stage of the theater there are performances of the school - "The Snow Queen", "Morozko", "The Nutcracker", "Doctor Aybolit" and others.
