The Cinema Foundation continues a competition to support cinemas in populated areas with a population of up to 500 thousand people. Applications are accepted until September 1, 2017. The competition was prolonged at the request of organizations that perform film screenings in the regions.
The program of supporting cinemas is aimed at expansion of the geography of film screenings in the country. The reason for the launch of the program was inadmissibly low level of cinematography in the Russian Federation. The main objective of the program is to help create new cinemas in communities where residents do not have the opportunity to watch films in cinemas. It is expected that by the end of 2017, more than 10 million people will be able to access modern digital cinema screenings.
This is the fourth competition to support cinemas in small and medium-sized cities. Within the framework of the contest, the funds will be allocated in amount of 1 billion rubles. As before, funds are provided for each cinema hall in the amount of up to 5 million rubles on a non-return basis. An indispensable condition for a converted cinema hall is the demonstration of films of domestic production in volume of not less than 50% of the cinema sessions in a quarter.
