The goal of the ART expedition is to preserve and popularize the cultural heritage of the Bolgar civilization through contemporary art. The project's tasks are visualization of historical images through immersion in an authentic environment, creation of works of contemporary art.

In fact, this is an artistic study that involves immersion in the ethno-cultural space of the region under investigation. Proceeding from the tasks set, the artists collect local material both informational and authentic, through various methods using intuition, imagination, acquaintance with the expositions of the museums of Bolgar and materials of archaeological excavations.

The project involves artists from different countries who have historical links with the Bolgar civilization. The geography of this project covered Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Mari El, Crimea, Bulgaria, Hungary.

In the course of the work  round tables, presentations of the creativity by each participant of the project were held, a lecture was given by the Crimean artist and researcher of the Crimean Tatar art Churlu Mamut.

The organizers of the ART expedition are the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Bolgarian State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve, the Tatarstan branch of the Association of Art Critics, the Union of Artists of the Republic of Tatarstan.
