14 March 2017, Tuesday

In "New Jerusalem" special conditions for the exhibition have been  created. The hall where the pictures of Shishkin will be exhibited, repainted in green, against the background of which the forest landscapes will look harmonious. Here  also  a special temperature regime was set and lighting equipment made by order of the museum. Round the clock  guard is on duty in a hall. Opening of the exhibition will be held on March 15.

This project is dedicated to the 185th anniversary of the birth of the master and implemented in conjunction with the State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Tatarstan, Serpukhov Historical and Art Museum, Khimki Art Gallery named after S. N. Gorshin, Nizhny Novgorod State Art Museum. The paintings presented in the exposition are not widely known to the general public. The works were created in the most fruitful period of the landscape painter's work and fully reveal Shishkin's skill, the ability to portray  natural world in a naturalistic way.

In his work Shishkin was a supporter of the realistic tradition of painting. His method is often called photographic because of addiction to draw the smallest details. However, thanks to this approach, considering his paintings, the viewer involuntarily plunges into the world of nature and remembers the freshness of the summer morning in the forest, the aroma of pine tar, the coolness of the shadow under the mighty pines.

"Shishkin is an outstanding Russian artist who reflects the national landscape, whose merit is that he showed Russian nature objectively and gave it an epic character," said Alena Vakhrusheva, senior research fellow at the New Jerusalem art department.

Ivan Shishkin was an unusually prolific artist: he created more than 600 paintings and left a lot of work in pencil, pen, sanguine and charcoal. Remaining faithful to his vocation throughout his life, on March 8 (20), 1898, the artist died at the easel, not having finished his last painting "The Forest Kingdom".

The exhibition will run until May 11 at the New Jerusalem International Exhibition Center, at Istra, Novo-Ierusalimskaya Embankment, 1.
