The Center "Hermitage-Kazan" of the Museum "Kazan Kremlin" holds the opening ceremony of the exhibition from the collection of the State Hermitage

At the Center "Hermitage-Kazan" of the Museum "Kazan Kremlin" construction is under way of  the next exposure, the thirteenth exhibition from the collection of the State Hermitage. "The outcomes  of all ages." The epoch of historicism in Russia. 1820-1890-ies "- bright and interesting exhibition project in the year of the 250th anniversary of the great museum.

The official opening ceremony will take place on November 20 at 16.00.

The exhibition "The outcomes of all ages." The epoch of historicism in Russia "from the collection of the State Hermitage Museum is devoted to the period in Russian culture, which was called historicism.

The XIX century has not created a style of the era, but none of previous eras manifested such a variety of styles, trends, all types and genres of art as a "Neogreek", "Gothic", "Second rococo", "Renaissance", "Moorish", etc . Apart from all, "Russian style" was developing, which became part of the national policy, the implementation of the famous postulate: "Orthodoxy, Monarchy, Nationality".

Heightened sense of time and a particular interest in history   features all the artistic directions of the era of style of historicism or eclecticism, having covered the main time period 1820-1890-ies.

More than eight hundred paintings, drawings, fine objects of decorative arts provide an opportunity to better understand the essence of a particular style, belonging to a bygone era. The era of historicism, encircled governing of three emperors: Nicholai I, Alexander II and Alexander III.

The exhibition presents paintings and graphic works by famous artists who worked in 1820-1890 years in St. Petersburg among them: P.N.Orlov, F.Palitstsi, A.V.Tyranov, K.A.Ukhtomsky, G.G. Gagarin, P.F.Boreli and others. They are complemented by unique photographs of important events, monuments, architecture, portraits of the XIX century.

Kaleidoscope style, taste and historical ideals in the XIX century were caused by the development of historical trends in Russian art. Customer tastes begin to play a decisive role.

This is evidenced by watercolors of the interiors of the Winter Palace and the original subjects of their decoration. The exhibition presents an armchair from the Malachite Hall of the Winter Palace, which, at the personal request of Empress Alexandra Feodorovna were mounted with miniature wheels.

Special interest constitute personal belongings of the imperial family - decorative objects made of malachite, a favorite stone of Emperor Nicholai I, the Azure casket of Empress Maria Feodorovna, spouse of Alexander III.

The objects from porcelain, glass, stone, bronze, metal are presented in fashion styles. Vases, resembling stained glass and shape of Gothic cathedrals, a dual layer of ruby glass vase molded in the technique of "snowball". Clocks like a Gothic cathedral or a shelf in the form of a fabulous "a hut on chicken legs." Many of the items and cause surprise, for example, as a drop portbizhu sink or spittoon!

Fashion of historicism era is manifested by suits, dresses, jewelry, purses, fans, holiday kokoshniki with gold threads, elegant hat that completes the costume of the Empress Maria Feodorovna. Of particular interest are decorations made of cast iron - a necklace, bracelet in fashionable Gothic style, which makes them, in spite of the material, refinement and elegance.

"Historicism" says that the art of this period sought the themes and images to the  history. Any historical period or style can now become a prototype for future creations. Therein lies the historic significance of this style

Only the Hermitage collection provides a rare opportunity to show the period of historicism in Russia in the diversity of its manifestations, starting with products of the highest level to things that reflect the same fashion trends, made for people of moderate means.
