20 - 25 October, 2014, the IV (XX) Russian Archaeological Congress to be held in Kazan.
By resolution passed in 2011 in Staraya Russa and Veliky Novgorod, the III (XIX) All-Russian Archaeological Congress, the next jubilee from pre-revolutionary period, its has been settled the IV (XX) Congress to hold in Kazan. This decision is due to the high achievements of archeology of Tatarstan in the last period, and in commemoration of the IV All-Russian Archaeological Congress held in Kazan in 1877.
Actuality and importance of the event, through which Russian scientists will be able to see the results of research projects and discuss topical issues of archaeological and historical science, reflects rapidly growing number of its members. In II (XVIII) All-Russian Archaeological Congress in Suzdal in 2008 was attended by more than 400 scientists from 190 institutions f from 53 subjects of the Russian Federation, III (XIX) All-Russian Archaeological Congress in Staraya Russa and Novgorod in 2011, was attended by more than 600 scientists from research organizations of Sciences, universities, museums, organs of monuments preservation of history and culture, and others. organizations from more than 60 regions of the Russian Federation. These conventions were significant developments in the academic and social life of modern Russia. Resuming the tradition of Congresses gave significant impetus to the consolidation of archaeological and historical scholarship and overcoming regional fragmentation, protection of ancient monuments and culture, provided an opportunity for a wider audience to get acquainted with the most important results of research projects carried out by individual institutions, in various regions of the Russian Federation - that is, given a new momentum for association of archaeological community. Thus, the ever-increasing interest in the archaeological community to this event is evidence of its necessity and relevance.
At the next IV (XX) Congress, it is expected to discuss topical issues of archaeological and historical science, the problem of preservation of the archaeological heritage as part of the cultural heritage of the peoples of Russia, the role of archeology in education, museum construction, restoration of ancient archaeological sites and other problems. These issues are fundamental to modern archeology.
During the preparation of IV (XX) All-Russian Archaeological Congress in Kazan, Organizing Committee received applications from 950 scientists from 72 regions of Russia and 22 countries of the near and far abroad. They represent more than 260 scientific organizations, universities, museums, and government agencies for the protection of monuments of history and culture, and other organizations. Around 700 participants submitted their reports, which will be included in a 4-volume edition of the Proceedings of the Congress. In the course of the congress it is planned to organize a 2-Roundtables on the most important problems of archeology.
