A lecture-discussion on the topic: "Heroes of Shakespeare in the contemporary world: political and psychological allusions" to be held at the Center of Contemporary Culture Smena

23 September 2014, Tuesday

In 2014, the world celebrates the 450th anniversary of William Shakespeare. On the eve of the premiere of Shakespeare's "Richard III»   at the  Kamala theater, literary manager of the theater Niyaz Iglamov  wondered - why Shakespeare's plays are still relevant,  now,  more than ever?

"Shakespeare wrote 37  populous  by characters  plays:"political ", tragedies, chronicles. Who are his heroes, why make theater for centuries  again  and again  turn to him? If in previous historical periods, we could speak of Shakespeare's characters as psychological types,  today we meet not only the types, but    many bright personalities  that correlate with specific characters, including the political arena of the world "- the critic  explains.

It  has long been noted that the popularity of tragedies, comedies and chronicles    by Shakespeare in this country is subject to cyclical logic and bound with  state of   the  society. Suddenly, all theaters, as agreed, starting to put "Romeo and Juliet", refer to "Measure for Measure", one after the other  produce "Hamlet" and "Midsummer Night's Dream." Unfortunately, chronicles   by  Shakespeare, could not wish it better,   more in line with the current historical moment. Fratricidal wars, pouring blood, betrayal, treason, usurpation of power  find their way very often  into the new century. There are  plays  that can not be staged  in isolation from the realities of life.

The  lecture by  Niyaz Iglamova is dedicated to the theme  "Heroes of Shakespeare in the modern world: political and psychological allusions"  will take place on October 1 19.00 at the Center for Contemporary Culture "Smena". N. Iglamov  will  not just tell  about the playwright, but also hold direct parallels between the characters of Shakespeare  of  XVI century, and politicians  of  century XXI.

The lecture will   help to learn more about the playwright, to understand the intricacies of Shakespearean plots, allow to look at the staging of his plays from  a whole new perspective.
