The archaeological park and Research Laboratory to be created in Bolgar

Today, at a meeting in the Kazan Kremlin, International interdepartmental scientific and methodological expert council of Foundation "Vozrozhdenie" with  State Advisor of the Republic of Tatarstan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Foundation "Vozrozhdenie" M.Shaimiev took place.

The meeting was chaired by the International Expert Council - Rector of Kazan (Volga) Federal University Il'shat Gafurov .

Draft concept of the archaeological park and a research laboratory in Bulgaria  was presented  at the meeting.

In his opening remarks Mintimer Shaimiev noted that the work on the revival of the Bolgar and Sviyazhsk continues and the issue posed today for consideration by the Expert Council is a new stage.

"Now, when and Sviyazhsk, and Bulgaria made ​​considerable amount of restoration, archeology becomes the most important and responsible direction. It is also important that we now have recommendations for Bulgaria ICOMOS advisory mission . As you know, during the mission, generally  a positive assessment of complex measures and methods for the conservation of archaeological sites of the ancient Bulgarianshas been given. Program and a systematic approach of  conducting  work is marked ", -  Mintimer Shaimiev said.

According to him, ICOMOS experts noted the value of non-destructive methods, which , thanks to  KFU scientists was  applied in Bolgar. These methods have led to the production of a large amount of new information and allowed to carry out a strategic choice of new locations for excavation. Advisory mission concluded that the excavation and archaeological studies meet internationally accepted standards of archaeological excavations.

At the same time representatives of ICOMOS recommended long-term strategy of digging , which should include a strategy infallible conservation areas as reserves for future research and conservation of the archaeological integrity of the site as a whole.

" Based on this, a new direction proposed by archaeologists  was  supported   by the Republican Fund "Vozrozhdenie" - the creation of an experimental archaeological laboratory and archaeological open-air museum , the so-called archaeological park - is of great interest ," - Mintimer Shaimiev stressed.

Creation of   the  archaeological park in Bolgar, in his opinion , allows to ensure  necessary conditions for the full disclosure of historical and cultural potential of the complex. "The project will provide an opportunity to use the full capacity of the resources created in Bolgar by international archaeological research center ", -  RT  State Councilor said.
