Republican festive of Mari culture «Semyk» will be held in a village Mari-Suksy Aktanysh municipal region

On June 23, 2013, a Republican festive of Mari culture «Semyk»  will take place in Mari-Suksy of Aktanysh region.

This year, over 10 Mari folklore and vocal collectives   from 12 municipal formations of the republic: Agryz, Arsky,Aktanysh, Balatasinsky, Kukmorsky, Mamdysh, Menzelinsk, Mendeleevsky Muslyumovsky Elabuga  regions and cities of Kazan and Naberezhny Chelny  with total number of participants 250-300 persons are  assumed to participate in the festive. It is also expected participation of the guests from the Republic Mari-El.

Traditional festive of Mari-El people «Semyk» is one measures promoting preservation of development of traditional culture of nations, living in the Republic Tatarstan.     

Its main idea is remembrance  of the dead relatives and asking their blessing for  luck in economic matters and everyday life. The festive is marked in  7 weeks after the Easter from Wednesday on Trinity week and ends on Sunday on Trinity day. The Orthodox Mari celebrate it from Thursday.

On present day, modern  «Semyk» is a not a direct continuation of the ancient Mari festive. During its progressing, it undergone changes, having become a mass national festive of the Mari, held in a festival format. However, its obligatory ethnic components: national clothes of festive participants, folk songs and dances, national instrumental music, games, traditional cuisine      have preserved.

The festive bears a transferable character and regular is held in the regions of  the Mari compact living. Place of holding is determined  on a symbolic relay  by results of loting.

Recent years, the festive in republican scale were held in Muslimovsky, Menzelinsky, Agryqzsky, Kukmorsky, Elabuga municipal regions  in settlements with compact  living of the Mari.
