In Center «Hermitage-Kazan» opens exhibition «Olympia: victory over time. Works of ancient and western-European art from collection of State Hermitage»

April 16 at 16.00 a.m.  in  Center  «Hermitage –Kazan»  opens exhibition  «Olympia: victory over time. Works of ancient and west-European art from collection of State Hermitage». About  300 exhibits from collection  of State Hermitage acquaint  with history of Olympic games.

Many exhibitions were dedicated  to Olympic games of ancient times but this time in the Kazan Kremlin it is going to especially    be  actual in the run-up of the Universiade to be held in the Republic of Tatarstan  in  2013.

Considerable part of exhibits, included in composition of the exhibition, is displayed for the for time and first time  is included in scientific turnover, owing to publication of the  catalogue.  Among exhibits there is a unique  tomb of teacher of gymnastics, found in Panticopea. Fine translation of poetic epitaph, written on this monument  was prepared  by prominent antiquity specialist of Hermitage, archeologist  Yu. P. Kalashnikov.

While developing concept of this exhibition,   the experience   was taken into consideration of many previous hermitage expositions dedicated to this theme.

Thematic  expositions are divided into  several sections. In ancient block, a marble sculpture  is presented, painted vases with pictures of various athletic contests, used as rewards; items of bronze; the works of coro plastic( making-creation of  female figures of  clay, gypsum), gliptica

( art of engraving on stones), numizmatica, which help to represent the atmosphere of Olympic festive.

In the block, narrating about re-birth of  Olympic games in New time    (Renaissance)   and resorting to  ancient traditions in art, besides  painted pictures, canvasses, engraving and espaliers on  ancient and mythological plots, bibliographic edition, photos, Olympic medals and memorial tokens are presented.

Dated to the exhibition, the collective of museum officers and printing house  Slavia has prepared a scientific illustrated catalogue. Author  of the concept and  curator of the exhibition – Dmitry Pavlovoch Aleksinsky, scientific  officer of the museum of Section of antique world.  Design of the expositions has been developed  by chief sector of temporary exhibitions  of Exposition –procedure section, artist  Vitaly Borisovich Korolev.
