27 November 2020, Friday

On November 26, 2020, IsmetErikan, Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in Kazan, visited the National Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan.

During the visit, the Turkish diplomat met with acting General Director of the Museum Svetlana Izmailova and Deputy General Director for Accounting and Storage of Museum Items - Chief Curator Lilia Sattarova. During the meeting, a conversation took place about the prospects for cooperation in the field of culture.  Consul General noted the great importance of cultural contacts for  development of relations between countries and regions, and stressed the importance of the National Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan in  presentation of the culture of the republic and  implementation of international projects.

The meeting continued in the museum's funds, where the curators acquainted the distinguished guest with  Turkish collection. The museum's funds contain a small but very valuable collection of objects, which include coins, books, weapons, fabrics and embroidery, pieces of jewelry that speak of the culture of the Ottoman Empire in the 17-20 centuries. Mr. Erikan got acquainted with  rarities from this collection, in particular, he examined the unique monuments of jewelry art of the 17th century, which brought to us the artistic techniques of Istanbul masters - precious gold and rubies that adorn the frame of the 1682 Gospel.

The museum's collection contains a number of Turkish fabrics, the diplomat was especially interested in large bedspreads of cloth covered with multicolor ornamental embroidery. Undoubtedly, one of the outstanding works of special cultural, historical and artistic value is the panorama of Constantinople, painted in 1821 by a famous English watercolorist William Page (W. Page, 1794-1872). It is assumed that this rare panorama, stored in the National Museum, will become the basis for joint projects that are planned to be implemented in the coming years.

Consul General of the Republic of Turkey IsmetErikan got acquainted with the new stationary exposition of the National Museum, where his attention was attracted by  sections devoted to the history and culture of the peoples of Tatarstan, and left an entry in the Book of Honorary Guests of the Museum.
