The project of the Museum of Islamic Culture “I'm not a stranger here!” was presented in the nomination "Work with special audiences".
On May 29, during the closing ceremony of the Intermuseum 2020 international festival, which took place on-line, the Kazan Kremlin Museum-Reserve was thanked for “Creative and integrated approach to creating methods of social adaptation and the unity of national communities”, and also a letter from the Russian Committee of the International Council of Museums (ICOM-Russia). Both awards were presented for the project “I'm not a stranger here!”, Implemented at the Museum of Islamic Culture in 2019–2020.
The ICOM Russia Vice President Sergey Bogatyrev praised the project and its prospects, noting that this is a unique project with a great future. “He has just begun his work and will develop,” the expert emphasized.
Intermuseum Festival is a major annual international exhibition of museum achievements. It is attended by employees and leaders of foreign and Russian museums. The festival sets the vectors for the development of museum business. This is a space of education, exchange of expert opinion. The 22nd festival was held from May 27 to 29 in an online format. More than 120 museums were selected for the competition program.
Ilnur Nizamiev, head of the Museum of Islamic Culture and curator of the project, introduced it in the discussion session “Otherness and Diversity: the Role of Cultural Institutions in Social Inclusion and the Adoption of the“ Other ”. The project aroused great interest, since museums have just begun to realize their social responsibility, and there are practically no examples of the work of Russian museums with the topic of migration.
Exhibition-research "I'm not a stranger here!" opened at the Museum of Islamic Culture of the Kazan Kremlin Museum-Reserve on December 15, 2019. The project is a laureate of the contest “Genius of the place. New local history ”and implemented using a grant provided by the Russian Cultural Foundation. 3,000 people watched the online tour of the exhibition on the social networks of the Museum-Reserve, more than 17 thousand people got acquainted with the project in the museum itself.
The exhibition will last at the Museum of Islamic Culture until mid-June.
