March 31 at the State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Tatarstan starts the second module of lectures on the national art of the XX-XXI centuries

March 31, 2018 at 15.30 at  the museum will be a lecture by Sergei Khachaturov "Art Nouveau".

In the second half of the XIX century, an industrial revolution took place in Great Britain, everyday life of city residents was filled with stamped and similar items of factory production. As a reaction to active industrialization, a movement of "Art and Craft", whose ideological inspirations were John Ruskin and William Morris  appeared here. They set out the goal of creating a harmonious living environment through the synthesis of nature, architecture and interior design of the dwelling, as well as the preservation of the individual style in consumer goods. The lecturer will analyze the influence of the theorists of "Arts and Crafts" and the philosophy of symbolism on Russian art of that period, tell about the birth of the modernist style and its paramount poetics: nostalgia for integrity, organic, unity of craft and art. A separate theme, considered in the lecture, will be the national version of Art Nouveau in architecture.

About the lecturer: Sergey Khachaturov - curator, art historian, candidate of art history, associate professor of the History of Russian Art Department at the Faculty of History of Moscow State University named after MV Lomonosov
