7th International Contemporary Music Festival "Сoncordia" will be held in Kazan

November 3, 8, 11 and 15 the State Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Tatarstan invites guests and residents of Kazan to the annual international music festival of contemporary music named after Sofia Gubaidulina. The festival is the brainchild of its founder and organizer, People's Artist of Russia, art director and chief conductor Alexander Sladkovsky. Most of the works included in the festival program, will sound  in Kazan for the first time.

The first festival was timed to coincide with the 80th anniversary of Sofia Gubaidulina, the author of more than 100 symphonic works, compositions for soloists, choir and orchestra, instrumental ensembles, music for theater, cinema and cartoons. On the personal invitation of Maestro Sladkovsky, in the first festivals there  were Sofia Gubaidulina, David Geringas, Yuri Bashmet, Gia Kancheli, Andrew Eshpai, Ksenia Bashmet. In 2013, the festival was dedicated to the jubilees of B. Britten, K. Penderetzky and L. Bernstein. It was attended by Sergei Nakaryakov, Igor Fedorov, Lukas Geniusas, Rustem Kudoyarov, Andres Mustonen, Christopher Mulds.

On November 3, the opening of the Seventh International Festival of Contemporary Music will take place at the S. Saidashev State Concert Hall. Krzysztof Penderetzky (Poland), an outstanding composer, conductor and public figure, a world-class star and honorary member of the Royal Academy of Music in London, will take part for the first time. For the Kazanians the following works will be performed: K. Penderetzky - Concerto for violin and orchestra No. 2 "Metamorphoses" and Symphony No. 4 (first performance in Kazan). Soloist - E-Yun Choi K, conductor - Krzysztof Penderetzky.

Penderetzky's music is always designed for a broad listener and favorably differs from many elitist works of 20th-century composers by the availability of a musical language. Penderetzky received many domestic and international awards, including State Prizes, the Polish Composers' Union Prize, A. Honegger Prize, Sibelius Prize, Grammy Award, Imperial Prize (Japan), Medal of the Pontifical Council for Culture "Per Artem ad Deum" and others . In 2005 he was awarded the highest award of the Polish Order of the White Eagle.

In the  November program: S. Barber - Adagio for string orchestra, A. Hovanes - "Artik", concert for horn and string orchestra (first performance in Kazan), A. Piazzolla - "Aconcagua", concerto for bandoneon and orchestra, W. Raupova - "Pentatango" for bayan and orchestra (first performance in Kazan), G. Tolstenko - Symphony No. 2 "9 Meditations" (first performance in Kazan). Soloist - Dmitry Vorontsov (French horn), Aidar Gaynullin (bayan). Conductor - Honored Artist of Russia Sergey Polyanyko.

November 11 works of S. Gubaidulina - "Poem-Tale", op. 1971, K.Bodrova - Concerto for viola and orchestra (first performance in Kazan), A.Tanonova - Symphony No. 1 (first performance in Kazan), S. Gubaidulina - "A horseman on a white horse" for a symphony orchestra and organ. Soloist - People's Artist, laureate of the State Prize of the USSR and four state prizes of the Russian Federation, art director and chief conductor of the State Symphony Orchestra "New Russia" - Yuri Bashmet, conductor - Alexander Sladkovsky.

In the program on November 15: A. Schnittke - Concerto No.1 for cello and orchestra. The soloist of the evening is one of the most charismatic musicians of his generation, Honored Artist of Russia, the exclusive artist of the Moscow Philharmonic - Alexander Knyazev. D. Shostakovich - Symphony No. 12 "1917", op.112, conductor - Alexander Sladkovsky.

Sofia Gubaidulina on the event: "Now we are experiencing a time that is favorable only for the art of entertainment. I am sure that listeners of Kazan are very responsive to what contemporary artists feel and offer. For me, this festival is an event. This is a great hope. "
