Leaders of children's libraries from all over the country will discuss in Kazan development of children's reading

On June 14, at 11.00 in the Kazan Town Hall with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan,   Interregional Scientific and Practical Conference “Children's Reading as a National Treasure” will be held, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Republican Children's Library of the Republic of Tatarstan. The director of the Russian State Children's Library, Maria Alexandrovna Vedenyapina, heads of children's libraries from all over the country, children's writers of the Republic of Tatarstan and specialists in the book industry will take part in its work. Topics discussed include current issues and prospects for the development of children's reading, raising the level of education for children, and sharing work experience.

At the conference, it is planned to sign an agreement between the Russian State Children's Library and the Republican Children's Library of Tatarstan on cooperation in the field of scientific, methodological, research and informational work.

The program also includes master classes, meetings with famous writers of Russia and Tatarstan, book exhibitions and exhibitions of illustrators.

May 17, 2019 marks the 100th anniversary of  establishment of the Republican Children's Library of the Republic of Tatarstan. It was the first publicly accessible children's library of Tatarstan under  leadership of the writer Ekaterina Nelidova.

In 1932, a Tatar branch was opened at the library, which made it possible to serve Tatar readers in their native language. The literary circle with two sections (Russian and Tatar) was famous for the whole city. Writers came to classes in the Tatar section: Abdullah Alish, Fatykh Husni, Sibgat Khakim, Idris Tuktarov, Shamil Garayev.

Active work with readers continued during the Great Patriotic War. In the postwar years, the Children's Book Weeks began to be held in the library.

On July 1, 1954, by  decision of the RSFSR Ministry of Culture, the library was reorganized into the Republican Children's Library. In 2011, the library received the status of the State Budgetary Institution of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan "Republican Children's Library".

Today, the Republican Children's Library of the Republic of Tatarstan is a solid book collection of children's art and industry literature, (more than 119 thousand publications), the largest information center on childhood and educational support, a leisure institution, a methodical center for libraries of the republic, working with readers-children .

In 2019, for the first time, the Board of Trustees of the Republican Children's Library was created in the library. The Republican Children's Library has joined the Association of Artists, Art and Enlightenment to introduce children to reading “We Grow a Reader”.

Throughout the century, the children's library gives the world knowledge, discoveries, and creativity for many generations of Tatarstan, keeps and transmits a culture based on a rich book heritage, serves as a center for education, education and creative development, is a platform for interethnic and intercultural dialogue.
