Museum - the territory of education

On November 14-17, the National Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan will host the republican scientific and practical conference "Museum - the Territory of Education", dedicated to the 185th anniversary of the birth of the Kazan scientist and collector A.F. Likhachev (1832-1890).

Extensive collection of A.F. Likhachev, having been   passed  to the museum by his brother, Vice Admiral I.F. Likhachev, was the foundation of the Kazan City Scientific and Industrial Museum - now the National Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan. Likhachev not only collected and studied his collection, but also sought to promote the increase of education in society, the preservation of historical heritage. The traditions of enlightenment were reflected in the aims and tasks of the Kazan City Museum.

In Tatarstan at present there are more than 1000 museums and museum institutions. Among them more than 100 state, a significant number of schools, university museums, there are private galleries. Thanks to access to authentic subjects of history and art, modern museums play a big role in the spiritual and moral education of the younger generation, the whole of modern society.

As   RF Minister of Culture V.R. Medinsky marked it is necessary, "... that the museum would carry out the function of enlightenment, that is, it would not be a place for storing old things, but it would be an educational center", and suggested including a visit to the museum in the educational standard.

The National Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan, based on the achievements of museum pedagogy as an independent scientific discipline, positions itself as the scientific, educational and methodological center of the republic. Within a week in the halls of the museum and its branches will work discussion areas, hold master classes and museum lessons. Leaders and subject teachers of general educational institutions will be able to get acquainted with various educational programs, interactive and innovative directions of cultural and educational activities of the museums of Kazan and the Republic of Tatarstan, which can later be used in the school educational process.

The conference will be attended by representatives of museums, higher and general educational institutions, government institutions.

Within the framework of the Likhachev Readings, the winners of the project "Museum of the School" will be awarded.
